For immediate release – Redding, California — Alive Inside, the Sundance-winning documentary showing music’s remarkable ability to reach the souls of those lost in dementia comes to Oakmont of Redding, Redding’s newest Assisted Living and Memory Care community on May 15th, 2017. Those who are interested in attending the screening can RSVP to (530) 395-5900, as space is limited.
The film Alive Inside is a joyous cinematic exploration of music’s capacity to reawaken the souls of elders living with dementia. Filmmaker Michael Rossato-Bennett chronicles the astonishing experiences of individuals around the country awakening from Alzheimer’s through the simple experience of listening to music. His camera reveals the uniquely human connection we find in music and how its healing power can triumph where prescription medication falls short.
This stirring documentary follows a group of health care revolutionaries fighting a broken healthcare system, trying to demonstrate music’s ability to combat memory loss and restore a deep sense of self to those suffering from it. Rossato-Bennett visits family members who have witnessed the miraculous effects of music on their loved ones, and offers illuminating interviews with experts including renowned neurologist and best-selling author Oliver Sacks (Musicophilia) and musician Bobby McFerrin. This is an uplifting exploration of music and the mind, Alive Inside’s inspirational and emotional story left audiences humming, clapping and cheering at the 2014 Sundance Film Festival, where it won the Audience Award.
The film has fostered an explosion of Music and Memory facilities across the country, expanding from 4 to 3,000. Shocked by an epidemic of disconnection, Rossato-Bennett created the Alive Inside Foundation with a goal of sparking an Empathy Revolution based on connecting elders and youth through music. Both the giver and receiver benefit from this compassionate exchange.
As our population continues to age, more and more people will be affected by Alzheimer’s and dementia. Until a cure is found, we must do what we can to impact the lives of these elders and their caregivers. The Alive Inside Foundation is inspiring whole communities to band together to make a difference in a way never tried before.
The Alive Inside Foundation is working to inspire youth and entire communities to bring music to elders. Teachers, pastors, and volunteers are banding together to recreate the magic seen in Alive Inside, to using music as a bridge and creating healing intergenerational connections. The results are transformative, with both the students, the communities and the elders benefiting.
P.S. Bring plenty of Kleenex
